I guess the problem is either something corrupted on the USB drive, or it has an installer so old that it's not fully compatible with the current Mac infra (I don't recall the USB installer verifying files before copying, but the downloaded installer definitely does). Whoa, CFX has just finished installing! Digital download comes through!! I'm so relieved, as that would have seriously been quite a showstopper. Oh, btw, I didn't have a USB mouse to set up the Mini, so I stole one from my 7yo's make-your-own-computer kit. I'm now FINALLY installing CFX from the downloaded copy.
Oops, forgot Macs take 20+ minutes to update the OS. In the meantime, Big Sur 11.3 update available, oh well, might as well take that.
Didn't know it was available digitally? Do I have access? Logged into MakeMusic, hunted around for way longer than I should have, before I found the option under "Generate Keycard." Yep, since I bought and registered it, I have access to the full digital download! Saw an old post by Cybergene saying he downloaded CFX Full from Garritan. Hmmm.is it the installer? Something wrong with the Mac? Plus, it locks up the computer so you can't reboot or shut down without holding down the power button.
Put in my Garritan CFX USB stick, and it hangs after getting through about 30% of the install (hangs while copying one of the millions of "X" bank files). I almost regret it's going to be a dedicated headless VST player taped to the underside of a digital piano (almost) I'd love to have this for my work machine. The Apple refurb experience seems just as premium as a brand new unit, I'm really impressed. Got my Mac Mini M1 tonight! Beautiful machine. Still played smooth at buffer size of 32, however there's probably a tiny hair higher latency but I may be making it up since both are low enough for serious playing. I switched to the N1X audio interface then. The volume of the MacBook is set at max and is exactly the right volume but if you're on less sensitive (and higher impedance) headphones, it may not be sufficient. It's perfect even now.Ī slight remark here. I don't care if Garritan update it anymore or abandon it. Even at the lowest buffer size of 32 it's flawless, no latency at all! Smooth and slick! The most enjoyable Garritan CFX Full experience! ? Absolutely fantastic setup.
I used my HD595-s connected to the headphone output of the Mac. AFAIK, the CPU performance is lower when on battery). In addition I used the power adapter and not the battery (since I'm on a MacBook Air, not applicable to you. I obeyed the rules from my previous post. I installed the latest macOS 11.3 that was released last night (and contains further M1 optimizations). I decided to do a final validation once again.
If I recall correctly Nicholas Piegdon, the maker of Synthesia said something about Windows 10 updates almost breaking his app on some occassions. There is and always will be, new technology coming, and I can't really blame music software producers for having a hard time keeping up. Modartt being an exception with Pianoteq in this case, and may I say well done by them, regardless of what opinions people may have on Pianoteq. Nobody (well maybe some) are complaining that piano VST manufacturers in general, do not make their products runnable on Linux. Isn't that what Raspberry Pi CPUs are also based on? Apple M1 computers are an entirely new thing, based on the ARM architecture. They don't say the Garritan CFX will never support the M1 (standard?), only that more testing needs to be done. Apple's Rosetta 2 is showing promising results and we have seen no major issues with this but more testing needs to be done. We do not consider these machines within our current system requirements and do not offer technical support for this. (Emphasis: TheodorN) At this time, we do not recommend using Garritan products with these computers. We are continuing our testing with the production models of Apple's M1 based computers.
